Marques de Riscal Reserva 2019

Description

The Riscal Reserve is a true classic among the classics.

The grapes with which it is made come mostly from strains of the Tempranillo variety, a grape that supports very well the aging in wood and the aging in wood thanks to its balanced acidity and its fine tannin, planted before the decade of the 70s on clay-calcareous soils of the Rioja Alavesa. The light contributions of mazuelo and graciano add freshness and some color to the cut.

The wine ferments at a controlled temperature, with a maceration time that does not exceed 12 days, and then rests for two years in American oak barrels, and about a year more in the bottle. After this long rest, it reaches our glasses with a nice cherry color quite covered and maroon edges, without yet showing too many signs of evolution. On the nose it gives off aromas of spices (vanilla) and leathers as well as fruit (skin of black plums), cocoa and toasted and sweet memories (coconut) of the oak. In the mouth it is fine and elegant, with delicate and round tannins, silky touch and timely acidity; soft, well-defined and easy to drink. Its end is long, balsamic, lactic and restrainedly bitter. Undoubtedly, we must frame the Marqués de Riscal Reserva among the canons of Rioja classicism, for its freshness, its finesse and its great elegance, as well as for its good aging potential and its enormous versatility at the table; it works just as well with cured cheeses as it does with stewed legumes, roasted poultry or grilled lamb. A delicate decantation prior to consumption is highly recommended.

The winery produces around three million bottles annually with the clear objective of satisfying the avid followers who wait impatiently for its arrival on the market annually.
